Ransomware Awareness for Holidays & Weekends

Did you know that more ransomware attacks occur over holiday weekends? Generally, cybercriminals tend to target attacks over weekends, but they especially like holiday weekends.

Most cyber security companies believe that attacks occur over holiday weekends because employees are away from the office and trying to enjoy the extra days off. Additionally, ransomware attacks can take time to propagate through a network.

You can take some steps to better protect yourself from a hack, both before and during a holiday weekend. Eder Casella Technology’s recommendations echo best practices from the FBI and the CIA for most cybersecurity situations:

  • Don’t click on suspicious links.
  • Make sure you have an offline backup of your data.
  • Implement a strong password policy.
  • Make sure all your software is up to date.
  • Use two-factor authentication.
  • Invest in a quality antivirus and endpoint security.

Eder Casella Technology recommends lowering your overall risk this weekend (and every holiday weekend) and shutting down unnecessary workstations and servers.

Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!
