Soulmate or cybercriminal? Watch for these signs that your “true love” might be a romance scammer who’ll leave you with a broken heart and empty bank account.

You meet on a dating app or social media site, but they only want to communicate outside the app or site. They make plans to meet you in person, but always cancel. They claim to travel a lot or currently live in another country.

Conversation quickly turns intimate. They lavish you with attention and compliments. They soon claim you’re the one and may even propose marriage.

They ask for money
Suddenly they need money for a travel expense, medical emergency, or legal issue. They ask you to wire money or send gift cards. Or they ask you to invest in cryptocurrency or other money-making ventures.

If you’ve been targeted by a romance scammer, don’t send money in any form and cut off contact!
